Account Officer Job Description

Account Officer Duties and Responsibilities

  • Processing accounts payable and receivable transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Reconciling bank statements and ensuring all discrepancies are resolved promptly.
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly financial reports.
  • Assisting with the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Assisting with internal and external audits.
  • Responding to inquiries from vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Managing petty cash and reconciling expenses.
  • Monitoring and managing credit control procedures.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Identifying and resolving any accounting errors or discrepancies.
  • Using accounting software to manage financial data and generate reports.
  • Providing support to other members of the finance team as needed.
  • Managing the accounts of clients and ensuring correct and timely billing.

Account Officer Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an Account Officer or in a similar accounting role.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS).
  • Proficiency in using accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • ACCA/CIMA part-qualified or equivalent professional qualification (desirable).
